A Guide to Childcare Funding at Wiggles & Giggles Day Nursery

7 February 2025

Making Childcare More Affordable

Finding high-quality childcare that fits within your budget can be challenging for many families. Fortunately, several government-funded childcare schemes are available to help reduce the cost. At Wiggles & Giggles Day Nursery, part of Little Chiefs Day Nurseries, we support parents in accessing these funding options to ensure every child has the best start in life.

Understanding Childcare Funding Options

The UK government provides financial assistance to parents through various schemes. These options make it easier for families to balance work and childcare needs.

15 Hours Funded Childcare

Eligible parents can access 15 hours of funded childcare per week for the following age groups:

  • 9 months – 2 years old (Effective from 01/09/24) – Available for eligible working parents.
  • 2-3 years old – Certain families qualify based on income or benefits.
  • 3-4 years old – All children in this age group receive 15 hours of funded childcare, regardless of parental income.

This funding is available during term time or spread across the year depending on the nursery’s schedule.

30 Hours Funded Childcare

For working parents, the government provides 30 hours of funded childcare per week for 3-4-year-olds. This scheme helps parents reduce childcare costs while ensuring children receive high-quality early education.

Tax-Free Childcare

Tax-Free Childcare is a scheme where the government contributes £2 for every £8 you pay, up to £2,000 per year per child (or £4,000 per year for children with disabilities). Parents can use this funding for nursery fees, after-school care, and holiday clubs.

Universal Credit for Childcare

Families eligible for Universal Credit can claim up to 85% of childcare costs. This scheme helps parents cover nursery fees while they work or train for employment.

Childcare Vouchers (For Existing Members)

Although the Childcare Vouchers scheme is now closed to new applicants, parents who are already enrolled can continue using them to pay for childcare at Wiggles & Giggles Day Nursery.
